On August 19, Hokusei Products in Japan hosted a craft beer and puree tasting event for Japanese brewers.
The event called, “Beer, Bananas, and Puree” was held at Buzzed Lamb in Tokyo. The seminar setting was a charming spare room in the brewery’s building, a renovated traditional Japanese house.

30 brewers from 25 breweries attended the event, where they were served 2 beers made with purees from Oregon Fruit Company. Two other beers using banana puree from Tanabe Farms (a Hokusei business partner in Ecuador) were also sampled by the attending brewers. The president of Tanabe Farms happened to be in Tokyo in August, so he spoke directly to brewers about the grower’s experience
After the beer tastings, brewers from both Buzzed Lamb and Beer Brain breweries detailed their experiences in using fruit purees in beer. Both speakers freely shared various puree use techniques, which was much appreciated by the attendees. Immediately after the seminar, some attendees placed puree orders, for which we are grateful.
